James is a versatile composer and arranger having worked across jazz, orchestral, popular and contemporary chamber music. Highlights include the publication of two works for big band by Kevin Bell Music, arranging for leading UK jazz artists including Liane Carroll (“a classy arrangement” – London Jazz News) and Laurence Cottle, working with the Wilderness Festival Orchestra and Kate Nash on arrangements of David Bowie (“a properly stirring experience” – The Guardian).  As well as writing extensively for his own projects, including large ensemble James Brady’s Voyagers and quartet Vesperados,  James has worked with classical youth chamber ensemble Britten Sinfonia Academy and in 2015 was commissioned to write a new work by avant-garde group The Hermes Experiment.  He has studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music, with teachers including Robin Holloway, Scott Stroman, Iain Ballamy, Malcolm Edmonstone, John Cooney and Tim Watts.
